What I offer
I offer a safe, therapeutic space within which you and I can commit time and energy in working together on issues in your life that you need/wish to address. I believe that you are the expert in your own ‘internal world’, that you have the strength and resources that you need to work through any difficulties and, with help and support, you will be able to find and make use of these resources, however, I will challenge your thought processes and where they are causing you difficulties, support you in identifying any changes you might make. I will also support you in identifying ways of coping with what you cannot or choose not to change. Where appropriate, I will share my knowledge and experience with you in order for us to discover a way of working together that most benefits you.
I am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedure therein.
Whilst the information that you share with me is strictly confidential the following limitations apply:
- If what you tell me as your counsellor puts me in the position of breaking the law
- If I become aware that you are contemplating causing serious harm to yourself or to others
- If it becomes apparent that there may be a Child Protection issue to address
Even in such circumstances I would not normally break confidentiality without first seeking your consent, however, I may override your wishes if I feel there is serious cause for concern.
It may also be necessary to break confidentiality if you give your permission for me to talk to a member of the medical profession on your behalf or to refer you to another professional or professional agency. |
